In 2009, ELFM held its first ever Musicathon (24 hrs of music: all local, all live, non-stop), in the beautiful Seacroft Methodist Chapel that had been left unused for five years. It was love at first sight (and first listen)!
Since then East Leeds FM has used this amazing venue a number of times; for a second Musicathon in 2010, in 2011 an ambitious seven-day broadcasting festival of music words and music called ‘Live@Chapel’, and an evening of live performance and films entitled ‘Night At ChapELFM’.
These events allowed us to promote, showcase, and develop our plan to convert the disused chapel into a vibrant full-time live broadcast centre. ChapELFM will be venue that retains the beauty (and the acoustic) of The Chapel, but which is also something completely new for the city of Leeds: a live performance space dedicated to broadcasting, a place where musicians, writers, poets, and actors can come to perform all year round – specifically for broadcast.
Now, this year of 2012, what was just a twinkle in our eye has become a fully fledged project with 75% of the funding in place and planning permission approved.
But we still need all the help we can get, so please dig deep. Become a Friend Of ChapELFM by filling in the box bellow or downloading and application form.
