broadcasting to both valleys at once
After a very successful internet broadcast at Gipton Access Point in February 2008, ELFM has plans for the rest of 2008 … (oh yes):
Podcasts
The podcasts on the new website have proved very popular. You can now subscribe to them through itunes. We will be making more… And encouraging you too. If you’ve got something to say and want to share it with people in East Leeds, how about making your own podcast. If you have a login for the website you can even upload it yourself – just tag it podcast. Thoughtful opinion (or even a good rant), poetry, interviews – whatever you fancy really.
Internet broadcasts
With the success of the GAP broadcast – we are looking at regular internet broadcasts – possibly one weekend a month. The first one is being scheduled for 30th March in association with our friends at the Leeds Kurdish Community Association (have you seen how many comments they have on their kurdish night post?)
FM broadcasts
We are looking forward to a busy summer at ELFM. At the end of June Roundhay School goes for its third broadcast – 30th June to 4th July. We will be working closely with them as always and also tying the work in with the Breeze International Youth Festival.
At the same time we will be working closely with Garforth Arts Festival – creating a daily ‘best of’ programme ready to download the next morning. See our interview with Dave Evans.
We are also planning a one-day special internet broadcast on the 5th July to coincide with Seacroft Gala.
Community radio then goes west in Leeds as the our friends in the “I love West Leeds” festival go on air on the 7th July for two weeks. They pass the baton back to ELFM as we plan for a full two-week FM and internet broadcast from the 21st July to the 1st August – based in Seacroft.
But it doesn’t finish there – we are currently in discussions with our friends at the Moor Music Festival about running an internet broadcast live from the Festival on the 7-9th August. After that we’ll be ready for our summer holidays!
Other Projects
In the meantime, we’ve been to outer East Leeds for a one-off project at Brigshaw School on the 6th March – lots of audio up here on the website – see what Helen made of it: Brigshaw – Connecting Communities. Then a very successful day in Armley Prison on March 12th to record some podcasts on their first jobfair at the prison. We’ve been working with the prison and probation service for a few years now – particularly with the Outside Looking In series of programmes.
Apart from that, we’ll be doing some work up at John Smeaton Community High School and hopefully developing new partnerships with the David Young Academy; we are working with Carr Manor High School and Hillcrest Primary School to pilot audio-visual resources for new students arriving here from other countries; talking with Radio Asian Fever about some joint programming; and a whole range of project opportunities with Connect Housing.
From the people to the people!
Leave us your email address and we’ll remember you next time you visit.
Also if you have a gravatar it will appear next to your comment.>

Yes, more please! Especially giving residents of East Leeds the chance to hear about what is happening in the area - like the item on EASEL - and most important of all, the chance to get involved in saying what they want to happen. Good luck Hilary Benn MP for Leeds Central
