On Sunday 1st February ELFM attended the Leeds Holocaust Memorial Day service which marks the anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz in 1945 and commemorates those who died in the in Nazi holocaust and other genocides.
This year’s theme was ‘Stand Up To Hatred‘. Students of Roundhay School in partnership with Theatre Company Blah, Blah, Blah performed the story of Ruby Bridges, who stood up to hatred in 1960s New Orleans when she was the first African-American to attend an all white school. We spoke to the company to find out what they experienced in putting on this production.

I suggest you listen to the podcast before you try and make your own political points. This work is all about making sure that young people are aware of the fact of hatred and genocide so that events can't be swept under the carpet. It's about understanding and commemorating those who have stood up for what they believe in... not making cheap points.

The Turkish deny the Armenian holocaust yet our government want Turkey in the EU. It seems some genocides are swept under the rug while other genocides are used as clubs to stop debate on immigration. Why is there never any mention of the millions killed in Communist Russia?.
