‘How Green is our Valley?’
A Conference marking World Environment Day
Friday 5th June 09 organised by the Wyke Beck Way Community Forum

The Wyke Beck Community Forum brings together various local interest groups with a focus on activities in the Wyke Beck Valley area. I attended a recent conference held at Corpus Christi  Social Club which brought these local groups together with representatives from wider interest groups including Leeds City Council, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Natural England, Bellways and the Environment Agency.

Presentations from local groups talked of their views and future hopes for the Valley as well as describing some of the problems such as flooding that affect the area and that require a co-ordinated approach between the local community and the responsible public bodies to effectively deal with them.

Discussion was lively, informative and the event represented a positive step forward for the discussion about how to enhance the positive aspects of the Wyke Beck already enjoyed by many to create increased benefits for East Leeds.

I managed to talk to a range of different people – follow the links below:

  1. Eric Cowan – Wyke Beck Community Forum
  2. Julie Clark – Primrose Valley Action Group
  3. Judith Atkinson – Bellway Homes
  4. Students from Corpus Christi High School
