Stay in touch with East Leeds FM

As you will see – there’s a lot of really interesting stuff on the ELFM website – and more gets on the site every week.

Now it may be that you are happy to remember to come back and visit the site every so often and have a look at what’s new – but there are a couple of techno-geeky ways that might just help you to remember.

Subscribing to our podcasts through i-tunes itunes

You can be the first to download our latest podcasts by subscribing to ELFM through i-tunes. Whether you are on a pc or a mac, you need to have i-tunes installed, then just click on the link here – or on the i-tunes logo in the bar on the right of the screen. Either way, your computer should open up i-tunes and take you straight to the ELFM i-tunes page (as long as you are connected to the net) where you can subscribe (for free of course).

Then you can adjust your settings so that your computer will check for the latest podcasts – every day or week or whatever – and download them. You can listen to them on i-tunes on your computer (and watch them if they are movies) or sync to your ipod and listen wherever you feel like.

RSS – Really Simple Syndication rss logo

If you used the i-tunes link, you might have notices the RSS feed link. So what’s that all about? Wikipedia says: “RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favourite web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered display. RSS content can be read using software called an RSS reader.”

And here’s the problem in explaining how to use it – you have to decide which RSS reader to use. Some readers are bits of software you download to your computer, others are web-based. I use Google Reader. It’s free and is just one of the bits of web-based software you can use if you sign up with a googlemail account.

So, if you subscribe via RSS to ELFM and check your reader, you will find out when any new post is put up on the site – whether that’s news, a podcast, a video or whatever.

And if you are really particular, you can subscribe to particular issues. For example, if you wanted to subscribe to any issues about young people. Click on the tag for Young People – and you get a listing of all the posts that have been tagged young people. Now, check the RSS feed logo in the right hand bar and you will notice that the text has changed to “Subscribe to Young People“. If you click on the link now, you will be informed about any new posts that have been tagged Young People
