Unity Radio - Broadcast blog

Another Sunday and another ELFM broadcast. This Months broadcast was as interesting as ever, my personal highlight has to be the “United as One” show which showcased the life of young African’s in Harehills. As well as some genuinely funny chat, they played a mixture of music genres - from African through to UK Grime.

Once again our friends from the Leeds Kurdish Community Association put on an interesting mix of music and chat - it’d be interesting next time to hear about the Association’s work as well as the influence of Kurdish culture on the area. Finally we reprised the popular “In the Boudoir” show. Shared between 3 local acts we had live music from Streetlights, Maggie 8 and ODi. They all sounded amazing from my view point (in the studio listening through headphones) and the interviews were quite enlightening as well. All 3 acts had to choose some tracks to be played after their live set, again some interesting choices - some unexpected.

What could be better for the next broadcast? More people sticking around after their slots, I know we’re all volunteers but the bands that come along later in the day need our support, more people in the room would make the performances even better - it would make clearing up afterwards easier as well!!

Roll on the next internet broadcast on Sunday June 1st.

If you want to learn more why not come along to the next meeting on May 21st? Full details can be found here.

Our monthly Unity internet broadcast is all set to go ahead this Sunday between 4pm and 10pm. As usual come back to the ELFM page this Sunday which will subtly change (as if by magic) and allow you to listen live to the mp3 stream - as simple as clicking the Listen Now button.

This Sunday there will be a rich line-up of programmes with the theme of cultures and culture:

From 4-7pm, 3 shows run by young people from different backgrounds:
4-5pm – your friends from Harehills Youth in Partnership
5-6pm – young people from the Leeds Skyline Service;
6-7pm – the Kurdish group is back (again!)

7-8pm – Culture Vultures: what’s on, in and around Leeds that’s worth seeing or listening to. Jason investigates.

8-10pm – In the boudoir – the best in local music from Maggie8, ODi and Streetlights all performing live in the ELFM boudoir

ELFM – from the people to the people

Broadcast Blog

Once again ELFM is on air, this time we have returned to Lincoln Green for the first of our monthly internet broadcasts. As I write this I am listening to Ramtin Montazemy a local Iranian who plays beautiful flamenco guitar. Ramtin is the first act to perform as part of the East Leeds Live segment, with 2 more bands to come this should become a regular slot on ELFM.Overall this broadcast seems to have been thoroughly  enjoyed by all who have taken part.A special mention has to go to all the members of the Leeds Kurdish Community Association who have not only made us all feel so welcome, but who have also put in a lot of work in producing 2 hours of very interesting radio.Look out for audio from this broadcast which will be on the site soon along with details about how you can get involved with East Leeds FM.

Internet broadcast: 30th March

Posted by edheaton on March 28, 2008 – 3:11 pm | 1 Comment

This Sunday we start what we plan to be a regular monthly internet broadcast on the last weekend of every month.

We will be broadcasting from The One Community Centre in Cromwell Street, Lincoln Green LS9 7SG – thanks to our friends at Leeds Refugee Forum.

We kick off at 5pm with two hours from Leeds Kurdish Community Association, following on from their great success in our Gipton broadcast– see Kurdish night.

From 7pm to 10pm we focus on live music; starting with Ramtin Montazemy – a Flamenco guitar player from Iran: “I believe that there is something more than music when people play. Music is also an instrument, carrying your feeling to other people.”

Also coming in to play live are York based indie kids Paris Commune and country folksters Escapaed, check out our first Music Blog Podcast below for more information…
