A short film about the opportunities for becoming involved within the communities of East Leeds.
Mandi’s Academy of Dance was set up 3 years ago by Mandi Robinson to give young people something to do and to learn different styles of dance. Since then the Academy has gone from strength to strength and is now entering various dance competitions as well as putting on a series of successful shows recently in Whitkirk. In this podcast you will hear Mandi, as well as the parents and their children, talking about the academy and what it has to offer.Mandi runs a class at Newbourne Methodist Church every Tuesday evening (6 - 7pm) as well as classes at the Hunslet Boys & Girls Club.
Local MP George Mudie came down to the studio to play his kind of music and alienate voters - well young ones and ones who live in terraced houses - and certainly anyone involved in developing the EASEL regeneration programme.
What he does support is East Leeds FM … George Mudie - is he bover’d?
Hi everyone. Another show completed. Went well. I (luke) was down broadcasting live from the Henry Barran Centre where I interviewed Craig Clarkson who is a key worker for Learning agreement. Learning Agreement is a scheme for employed people that are 16 or 17 that want to get better qualifications and a better job. For more information on this please call Craig on 07825 019167 or E-mail him on craig.clarkson@conexionswestyorkshire.co.uk.
We also interviewed Gordon from West Yorkshire Fire Service. The WYFS were here today to offer free fire safety checks. If you would like a free fire safety check then please freephone 0800 587 4536 or get in touch with your local fire station via http://www.westyorksfire.gov.uk/. They also were there to address arson crimes because now 80% of fires that the fire service attend are deliberate ignition.
The return of Eastern Promise.
Since 2005, ELFM have been tracking the EASEL programme - the massive regeneration initiative for East And South East Leeds. Well the Eastern Promise team of Jonathan Lindh, Eddy Walker and Adrian Sinclair are back to find out where the EASEL has got to.
On the programme are Maggie Gjessing (Regeneration Manager) and Peter Anderson Beck (Head of the Easel Project) - hopefully with news that, at long last, something is happening on the ground.
As the project swings into another round of consultation (this time as part of the neighbourhood planning process in Seacroft and Halton Moor), we also talk with Katie Hill from DesignLeeds - the School of Architecture, Landscape and Design at Leeds Metropolitan University - and Mike Dando from Yorkshire Planning Aid. What does all this consultation achieve - a real sense of community involvement or just a chance for a good whinge?
