That’s right – the Musicathon is back for 2010!

This May Day weekend ELFM will return to Seacroft Methodist Chapel with a gaggle of musicians, singers, writers and performers in tow for another 24 hour broadcast: all live, all local, non-stop!

ELFM are also delighted to be part of the Live at Leeds programme this year, guaranteeing a weekend fit to burst with fabulous musical talent.

For the last Saturday Sofa, ELFM are based at the Headingley Literature Festival. The theme of the Festival is A Sense of Place.

As David Byrne memorably sang ‘I guess that this must be the place’. Where is that place for you? Where do you belong? How do you evoke your place in words?

We will be covering many of the Lit Fest events, talking to both writers and audience, inviting them to come on The Sofa which this time will come directly from our new and much improved Caravan of Love parked outside Headingley Parish Church.

Sunday from 1.30pm: Everybody Loves Fabulous Music

Our monthly musical broadcast offers you a chance to hear live sessions, interviews and new music from Leeds’ thriving music scene!

1.30-2.30pm: Everybody Loves Folk Music

Roddy Johnston and Peter Spafford  introduce a live session and interviews with Leeds’ finest folkies.  This month welcomes Gary Stewart into the studio

2.30-3.30pm: Junior Disco Dungeon

For a change in pace we swing open the doors to 18 year old producer Josh Baytrip, who introduces some of the songs that he has been working on.

3.30-4.30: Two Valleys Radio: Bar 1:22

Over to our sister station Two Valleys Radio bringing you the best in new music from Huddersfield’s premier music venue Bar 1:22

4.30-5.30pm: High Fidelity

Bringing you news, events, opinions and interviews as well as the best selection from Leeds’ mighty DIY scene!!!

5.30-7pm: The Disco Dungeon

The Dungeon plays host to two of Leeds’s finest singer/songwriters: Matt Bentley who is set to release his much anticipated album ‘Entropy’ and Hannah Trigwell who sees her debut EP ‘Hold My Heart’ put out in May.

From 7pm: Back over to Two Valleys Radio for some beautiful Brass Band music!

ELFM’s brand new Next Generation programme for young musicians kicks off in style with a four day project at the Electric Press building on Millennium Square this Easter (7-11th April)

Presented in partnership with Leeds Met University, the team of young musicians from across East Leeds will be working alongside two top Leeds performers: Cleve Freckleton (who plays as Rev Chunky) and Rich Huxley from Hope and Social. Together they will be creating new material towards a special broadcast on Sunday 11th at 1pm which we’re hoping will form the basis for a special Next Generation contribution towards the ELFM 24 hour musicathon coming up on May 1st/2nd.

The Next Generation is an ELFM initiative that aims to develop creative ways to encourage young musicians and to offer opportunities for them to develop their skills. We are planning a series of Next Generation projects through the year including live performance opportunities on air,  at gigs and festivals.

Saturday 30th January: 3-5.30pm – Belief
What do you believe in? What’s your personal credo? Have you ever lost your religion, or gained one? Do we need God? Why do you get up in the morning? An extravaganza of interviews, writing, poetry, music (and even a specially written radio drama) investigating the theme of belief.

Sunday 3st January: 1-7.30pm – Everybody Loves Fabulous Music

1-2pm: Everybody Loves Flamenco Music
The incredibly talented Ramtin Montezemy continues his journey through Flamenco, playing live and presenting key moments in the genre.

2-3pm: Everybody Loves Folk Music
Roddy Johnston introduces live session and interviews with Helen and Richard – The Grey Cats.

3-4pm: Scene To Be Heard:
Singer/Songwriter James Owen Fender sets up shop in the studio to play us his choice selection of music and tells us why he love them so!

4-5pm: Junior Disco Dungeon
This month we opened our doors to Indie/Rock funsters Subconscious and Singer Tyron Webster

5-6pm: High Fidelity
Newly revamped and refitted to bring you news, events, opinions and interviews as well as the best selection from Leeds’ might DIY scene!!!

6-7.30pm: The Disco Dungeon

Live sessions and interviews in our now famous Disco Dungeon with big hitters The I’s Of Idaho and the indie musings of Soul Circus.
