Temple Moor - first steps

Posted by Adrian on July 3, 2008 – 7:07 pm | 12 Comments

Temple Moor High School got in touch with ELFM to see how we might work together. When we met up, we agreed there was a lot of potential. So today we decided it was time to get on with it! I was invited to work with a group of 20-odd young people from different year groups who were interested in getting involved. It was good fun and they worked hard.

We worked on programme plans and then the different groups had a go at doing the first link for an imaginary programme. You can have a listen below - remember this is their first time ever.

It’s a great job giving people the opportunity to make radio themselves. I’m really looking forward to seeing how they get on when we go for real. Some of the Temple Moor students will be on air live  at 1pm on Monday 21st July - the first day of our summer broadcast; we’ve got some work to do but I think we’ll be in for a good show.

Maybe some of them will leave a comment below to let us know how they found their first session - and what they’re looking forward to (or maybe even what they’re worried about!)

New job at ELFM

Posted by linda on June 30, 2008 – 1:50 pm | No Comments

Adrian and Ed have been doing a fantastic job with ELFM this year, and we are really pleased to announce that we have secured some funding from The Tudor Trust to offer a full-time job to someone else to join the team.

These are very exciting times: new premises at Boggart Hill, the Caravan of Love tour, and the Summer Broadcast coming up. A lot for someone to get their teeth into. So, if  you or anyone you know has the right credentials for this job, please follow the links below.

East Leeds FM - Project Director

Heads Together Productions is looking for a Project Director for its highly successful Community Radio Project  - East Leeds FM. Since 2003, 2,955 local people, aged between 3 - 87yrs, have had a chance to make their own radio programmes through ELFM.

Radio Roundhay are on air between midday and 8pm this week - have a look at the Roundhay Timetable

And behind the scenes, Ed and Abi are working hard to help make it all happen.  Hopefully they will have a moment to post a comment and let us know how it’s all going.

Notes for meeting-25th June

Posted by Adrian on June 25, 2008 – 3:49 pm | 8 Comments

All goes well for our summer programme at ELFM. For all up-and-coming dates check out the Details of Next Broadcast link on the home page.

First of all - big thanks to all the team for turning out for the first gala at Osmondthorpe and Halton Moor last Saturday. Good job. More galas coming up on the 5th and 12th July - please sign up if you haven’t already. And of course you’ll get one of the much-sought-after Summer Starts Here tour t-shirts.

All the excitement is over the caravan at the moment, but don’t forget we’re taking temporary ownership of our new base in Boggart Hill. We should be getting the keys tomorrow (fingers crossed) and gradually moving in next week - ready for our first Unity internet broadcast from our new base on Sunday 6th July. Ed will be arranging the schedule - but we see it as an opportunity for an early practice for our summer broadcast teams.

Our next meeting will be there too - on Wednesday 9th July. On Sunday 13th our posh new studio gets delivered and installed and we’re straight into training week before the big broadcast. That should give our teams plenty of time to arrange to practice in the new space. We will switch on to the internet over the weekend of the 19th July for final as-live practices and then we are on air on 87.7FM (and the internet) from Monday 21st July to Friday August 1st.

The schedule is still developing - but looks something like this:

Weekdays:
7-9 Breakfast show
9-10 Morning talk show
10-12 The caravan of love
12-1 Lunch hour
1-2 Young people’s show
2-3 Pre-recorded break
3-5 Drive Time
5-6 Your community (inc Eastern Promise)
6-8 Evening music including live slot
8-10 Nigel Zone

Weekend: ?

Big job now is to get working on developing all the schedule - everyone needs to fill in the Production Team sheets.  And the other job is to start getting the publicity out - leaflets and  bookmarks look great - where can you take them and leave a pile? What groups do you know who would be interested?

And don’t forget the final job of the summer (and what a task it will be!!) Up off to the Moor Music Festival  6-8 August (with the caravan of course).

Please use the website to try things out, throw out ideas, give each other feedback - stay in touch!
