Halabja massacre
Posted by LeedsKurdish on March 20, 2008 – 3:49 pm | 6 CommentsOn 16th March 1988, Saddam’s warplanes attacked the small town of Halabja in Iraqi Kurdistan with chemical bombs. It is reported that up to 5000 civilians were gassed to death.
In Leeds, the Kurdish community contains survivors of this attack.
Twenty years on, Leeds Kurdish Community Association organised an event at the City Art Gallery to commemorate the event and pay respect to those who died.
