October 10/11th 2009 was the big launch weekend for Two Valleys Radio: broadcasting live from the excellent Marsden Jazz Festival and also the brand new Pigs Might Fly Festival of Arts and Mental Health at Bates Mill. Surely that’s not possible – you cry – two outside broadcasts at once. Well… it was a case of two teams; a caravan and a campervan and a bit of to- and fro-ing!
All went pretty much to plan and you can follow the links below to listen again or download…
Saturday 10th:
1pm – Pigs Might Fly Festival - Intro from Phil Russell, Tom Robinson…
3pm – Marsden Jazz Festival – Georgie Fame; Blink; Chairman Barney…
6pm – Pigs Might Fly – Moira Barker (Nosy Parker) introduces….
9pm – Marsden Jazz Festival – Ian Shaw, Iain Ballamy, Ruby Wood, Nicholas Meir and a background from your local jazz team…
Sunday 11th October
3pm – Round-up from Marsden – Haggis Horns, report from Standedge, Mike Walker …
Thanks to both Festivals for welcoming us in.
And big thanks to all the musicians for letting us broadcast their music. If you like what you hear: please support local music: go out to more gigs; buy the cds and pay for the downloads…
And leave us a comment and let us know what you think… after all – it’s your radio station!
Leave us your email address and we’ll remember you next time you visit.

IAN GREENAWAY - ages ago 23rd October 2009, 3:11pm
HI adrian thanks for attending the pigs might fly festival and making the day that more special for the special people that gave there time and music and poetry and other wondrous works of art. i,m espiacially pleased that you took the time to interview me and to tell people all about my bipolar (i call it my bipolar as everyone whom suffers from it has different aspects and responses and some suffer more greatly from it than others). It was good to let people know how it effects my everyday life but boy i did enjoy my 40 mins on the stage playing and singing to them all. I really think there should be more of these festivals as a lot of mentally ill people are gifted with the gift of the arts we can and we do play our part in this world full of stigma. I myself have a challenging illness as you know but i perform regularly on stage in front of hundreds but some talent we saw at the pigs might fly festival is wasted because they never get the chance to excel or exhibit, but your broadcast has made this all so possible for them all. thank you for taking the time to raise the awareness of our afflictions and helping spread the word that upon stage any thing is possible and just for a while the pigs did fly. T hanks ian greenaway please view my page thanks http://www.myspace.com/ianthemidnightwalker
Phil Russell - ages ago 14th October 2009, 4:59pm
Dear Adrian and gang, thanks so much for coming to our Pigs Might Fly Festival - it made an already pretty special day feel even more special and having the programme to listen to after the event is great. Over 20 different groups turned out to show how the arts can help people feel good about themselves - a top day all round. Cheers, Phil
