Thoughts From A Warm Studio

Posted by Paddy on July 28, 2008 – 3:40 pm | No Comments

Isn’t this nice! As week 2 of ELFM’s summer broadcast ‘08 begins so the weather decides to summery itself up. Although, to be honest, it’s too hot - but at the risk of sounding like a moaning Englishman we’ll ignore that point! As I write this I’m sat by myself in the ELFM studio in Boggart Hill making sure we keep going out on air as Adrian, Ed and Co. enjoy the fine weather in East End Park with the Caravan Of Love… I’m not jealous! As much as I’d love to be out and about with the golden caravan i’m sure it’s just important to be here pressing ‘play’ whenever it’s asked of me. Well, I have to justify it somehow!

As we roll on we get more and more excited about what’s coming up. Last week might have been brilliant, but this week can be even more excellent. More live bands (Shatner, The Thornbirds), more caravaning (Fearnville, East End Park..), more shows, more people, more music and more ELFM. Don’t forget to get in touch with the  station, we love getting feedback. Ring us on 0113 273 8883, text us on 60300 stating your texts with ‘ELFM ‘ or email us on info@elfm.co.uk.

P.S. I’m on again today, with co-presenter Harvey from The Lie In, at 8pm for an hour of classical music followed by an hour of rock & metal. Either interesting or weird, depending on your point of view!

Gipton Gala

Posted by andy on July 12, 2008 – 10:36 pm | 3 Comments

The Caravan of Love has been on the road again today, but this time in the sunshine - maybe it’s not cursed after all! Today we took our roadshow to the Gipton Gala at the Fearnville Leisure Centre and I think it’s fair to say that a great time was had by all. We broadcast from 10.30 through to nearly 4pm and during that time we had a large number of visitors to the Caravan, everyone from Gala visitors to the Gala Queen and her Attendant.

We made a lot of new friends and a number of people expressed an interest in getting involved in the upcoming big summer broadcast - if you left your details we’ll be in touch.

A big thank you to all involved in organising this years Gala and to all of the people who made us feel so welcome through the day.

Thanks for listening and keep an eye of the website for details of our next broadcast, from July 20th online and July 21st on 87.7FM and online!

Seacroft Gala Blog

Posted by andy on July 5, 2008 – 9:44 pm | 2 Comments

Okay then, where do I start? Bit of a strange one this. The Caravan of Love turned up on Seacroft Village Green as arranged, and once again the rain came with it (is it cursed?) By lunchtime it became obvious that things were probably not going to improve and the organisers of the Gala cancelled it. Time for a rethink…

After a bit of a discussion we decided to go back to our new home at Boggart Hill. Once we’d got the caravan packed up and off the, by now, very muddy grass the sun was shining as we drove the short distance back to “base”.

Once back we set up the studio in one of the upstairs rooms and we were off, slightly later than originally planned. Emma & Helen kicked things off and were followed by Julija, Anna, Valerie and Kate. They had only turned up at the Gala to help us out and suddenly found themselves on the air, with only about an hours preparation time. I have to say that they did an amazing job and their best bits will be on the site soon.

So the day didn’t turn out quite as we’d planned, but overall I think it was extremely successful - plus it gave us a head start in setting up for tomorrows Unity broadcast.

The Caravan of Love visits the Gipton Gala on July 12th, so why not bring your wellies and umbrella and join us?

The Caravan of Love

Well it’s an old 1970s caravan - perfect for an ELFM outside broadcast unit. It will be going to all the local galas and festivals and turning up in all sorts of places - maybe even in your street!

If you would like to arrange your own radio broadcast with your friends and neighbours, just call us up and arrange a time for us to come to your street towing a little bit of ELM love!

Eugene’s caravan design ideas

Here is an idea for the caravan based on 70’s design with funky orange lettering and detailing with awesome vinyl flames sprouting from the wheels. It’s not finished … just a mock-up.

Anybody else any ideas?
